You may be surprised that I hail from the heartland of America, the "Show Me" State of Missouri. People are generally puzzled when it comes to my ethnicity and guess I am something more exotic. I am half African-American, a quarter Mexican and Spanish and a quarter Irish. I get my African-American half from my father; my mother is Irish and Spanish/Mexican. Both parents were born in the United States. Growing up in America one cannot escape the issue of race. In America, people want to put you into one box, one category, but I dont fit into just one. I am a combination. When I was young I often fell asleep to my mother singing me Irish lullabies at night.
